Valentine’s Tweetup / Love Haiti Relief Party / TEDx Afterparty at Q Bar Saturday February 13th

So our next Tweetup is scheduled for a SATURDAY this month to coincide with Bangkok’s first TED-related event, next weekend, February 13th.

The owners of Q Bar Bangkok have been kind enough to collaborate with us to make donations to Red Cross Thailand to support victims of the recent Haiti earthquakes, and they’re optimistic that we’ll raise about 100k Baht!

This promises to be one of Bangkok’s craziest parties this year.

Come mix with awesome international speakers and attendees of this exciting technology/entertainment/design conference, ring in the Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day, and help raise funds for Red Cross. Get there before 11pm for a special deal and you’ll get in for just 300 Baht (including 1 drink and 100 Baht donation ;) .

Haiti Needs your help!

On Saturday, February 13th, Q Bar Bangkok in association with the International Red Cross will be holding a benefit to help support the hundreds of thousands of Haitian citizens whose lives have been affected by the disastrous impact of a 7.0 Earthquake. The International Red Cross Association will ensure that funds raised will go directly to those in need.

As many of us now know from various news feeds, the death toll for this catastrophic event may reach into the 100,000’s. The number of lives impacted through loss of homes, lands, jobs, and ensuing disease that could potentially wipe out everyone on this small island considered one of the poorest nations in the world.

Food and water and medical supplies are running short on the island and the situation there is “increasingly horrendous” Help is needed as this is a catastrophe for the Western Hemisphere’s poorest nation.

Now is the time, for those of us fortunate enough to still have homes, food, and water, to act. Much like Q Bar did back in 2004 to support victims of the tsunami, and 2008 to help the Burmese after the cyclone devastated Laos. Q Bar Bangkok would like to help raise funds and awareness for this crisis.

We will donate 200 Baht per paid entrance to help support the IRCA efforts.

In addition, guests are encouraged to make an additional personal donation into our Red Cross box and EVERY BOTTLE OF GREY GOOSE SOLD 50 Baht will be donated to the cause! Come join us and party for a cause on Saturday, Feb 13th.

800 Baht entrance includes 2 complimentary drinks (200 Baht as well as additional support goes direct to the Red Cross)

December 4th Tweetup this Friday at Lub*D Hostel in Silom

Last month at Lub*D Hostel was such a huge success—the staff was tremendously accommodating, you guys helped us break the bar sales record for the second time, we raised a lot of donations for In Search of Sanuk, and everyone seemed to love the venue—so this week we’re returning again to Silom to have one more party at Lub*D before the New Year.

July Tweetup Review: The #Streetup

We weren’t quite sure what the turnout for a Tweetup at a street vendor would be, but luckily our #Streetup this weekend was a huge success! Awesome Bangkok designer @winelirious generously donated his time & skills to create a fantastic banner for Dwight’s In Search of Sanuk community to help promote our charity fundraising events.

Proud of our new InSearchOfSanuk banner for Friday's #Streetup

Brooke, Dwight, Cody & Ryan with our new In Search Of Sanuk banner!

This month’s Tweetup drew cool attendees from Twitter, Couchsurfing, Facebook, and more. The guys at Microphone took great care of us and even made some special recipes off-the-menu like tom yum goong soup for us. We had about 30 or 35 people come through and I think everyone had a fantastic time! Here’s a few photos from this weekend.

Blurry, but more cool folks at the Tweetup

June Events Wrap-up: A Taste of Sri Lanka & LUSH Green Night Out

For June, we combined forces with some Couchsurfers to celebrate World Refugee Day 2009 with A Taste of Sri Lanka.

The combined Twitter/Couchsurfing Sri Lankan dinner turned out to be a very successful event. There were about 80 people in attendance to enjoy the authentic Sri Lankan feast prepared by refugees. After all the expenses, we raised about 10,000฿ ($300). You should be proud! Thanks to the Lub D staff who provided a great atmosphere! In Search of Sanuk used the funds from A Taste of Sri Lanka to start an account with the Bangkok Refugee Center to support the medical needs of asylum seeking refugees. Special thanks goes to Hyunsook Sooki Ji who together with her coworkers at ING Life donated over $100 to this cause

On June 19th In Search Of Sanuk worked with Green Networking Days Bangkok to co-host the LUSH party at Frasier Suites.

We want to make Bangkok greener and while doing so provide a service to the urban poor. We raised about 35,000 baht at our LUSH party: Bangkok’s Green Night Out. Now we’re working to connect with communities around the city to offer them a space where they can grow vegetables, spices, and herbs in their neighborhood. Read more here.
